Sir Eyre Coote (1726-1783) was a Irish general in British India. Short Biography:
His victory in 1760 at Wandiwash, followed by the capture of Pondicherry, ended French hopes of supremacy.
He returned to India- as commander in chief in 1779, and several times defeated Hyder Ali, sultan of Mysore.
