Sergiu Nicolaescu was born on April 13, 1930 in Targu-Jiu, Romania. He is a famous Romanian film director, actor and politician.
Biography and Career :
When he was 5 years old he moved with his parents in Timisoara where he grew up. He started to work as a camera operator, but this after he graduated the Polytechnic University in Bucharest as a mechanical engineer.
Segiu Nicolaescu said once "A film-maker's biography means besides anything, films and spectators tens on movie's titles and thousands of spectators". For him, movie making was and still is his life.
In 1962 he made his debut as a director with the short film - "Scoicile nu au vorbit niciodata" (Seashells Have Never Spoken). In 1966 he prod
uced his first feature film - "Dacii", a French-Romanian co-production. This film was such a huge success that Columbia Pictures bought it. In 1970 he made the film named "Mihai Viteazul".
The 1970-1980 period was his best professional period. He founded the first stunt-man school in Romania. He specialized himself in the movie making domain in every way that he could. He was making a lot of foreign productions and, in order to rise and maintain himself at the international films level he developed all sorts of skills. He was making two and a half films every year and, in parallel he was making all kind of researches for his future projects, becoming a specialist in Romania's history. He is also a politician and was elected in the Romanian Senate in 1992 as a member of the Social Democratic Party.
