Mary Gamarra was born in Trujillo, Peru. At a young age she moved to New York.
In New York, Mary entered the Hunter College for degree in literature and journalism. From her college, Mary got an internship with CNN; that was the beginning of her television career.
From CNN, Mary changed job to Univision in New York where she worked as a writer and news editor. This led her to bigger jobs and she soon landed a job as a producer for Telemundo's "Noticiero 47 at 11PM". She also presented a show on making life more beautiful.
Some time in the job, Mary decided it was time to change. So she took up the job of a weather correspondent at Dallas under the same Telemundo network. Next, she was seen in the early-hour program "Cada Dia con Maria Antonieta".
