He has Lebanese, Cypriot and Greek origins from his father and mother. His tennis career started at the age of five when he trained with his father and brothers. He attended the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Paris on an Olympic Solidarity Youth Development Programme Scholarship at the age of 13.
* He became a professional player in 2003 and won only two titles. Still, he received the 2005 Cyprus Male Athlete of the Year award. In 2004 and 2006 he played only until the second round at the US Open where he lost to Roger Federer and Andre Agassi but after wonderful matches.

He played into the semi-finals at Wimbledon in the same year after defeating Andy Murray or Lleyton Hewitt, but lost to World's Number 2, Rafael Nadal.
