Luis Figo (full name Luís Filipe Madeira Caeiro Figo) was born on November 4, 1972 in Almada, Portugal. He is a professional Portuguese footballer. Luis Figo was nominated as the 2000 European Footballer of the Year, the 2001 FIFA World Player of the Year, and was named amongest the FIFA 100. He have played for both the Spanish rival clubs FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Biography and Career :
As a youth player he played for Os Pastilhas and Sporting CP. In 1989 he became a professional player and started training with Sporting CP. In 137 matches he scored sixteen times.
Between 1995 and 2000 he was the player of FC Barcelona. He scored thirty goals in 172 matches. After FC Barcelona he moved to Real Madrid. He helped his team very much and during the years became one of the
most popular players in the world. Now he is playing for Inter Milan in Italy.
Regarding his national team he has been helping them since 1991. He managed to score 32 goals in 127 matches.
In 2001 he married Helen Svedin. Now the couple has three children: Daniela, Martina and Stella. His wife was a famous model and she comes from Sweden. Their daughters were born in 1999, 2002 and 2004.
During the years he won many awards and honors, including Ballon d'Or in 2000, in 2001 FIFA World Player of the Year and Portuguese Footballer of the Year in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000.
