Liya Kebede was born on January 3, 1980 in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. She is a supermodel and also started an acting career.
Biography and Career :
She attended Lycee Guebre Mariam and while being there, she was discovered and introduced to a French agent. After the school she left to France and after to New York. Her chance came when Tom Ford offered her an exclusive contract for his Fall/Winter 2000 show.
During the years many famous fashion names wanted her on their catwalk. She was seen in campaigns and advertisements for Gap, Yves Saint-Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro, Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Louis Vuitton and many others. The Vogue magazine put her on the cover and she appeared in its Italian, Japanese, American, French and Spanish editions. She also appeared in
other magazines like V, Flair, i-D and Time's Style & Design. Victoria's Secret proposed her to model in their shows and she was seen several times on their catwalk.
Estee Lauder hired her for three years and they gave her 3 million dollars per year. She is the first model of color who worked for this brand.
In 2000 she got married to Kassy Kebede and they have two children: one son, Suhul, born in 2001 and one daughter, Raee, born in 2005. They live in New York.
