David (c. 1060-970 BC) was the Second king of Israel. Short Biography:
According to the Bible he played the harp before King Saul to banish his melancholy, and later slew the Philistine giant Goliath with a sling and stone.
After Saul's death David was anointed king at Hebron, took Jerusalem and made it his capital. David probably wrote a few of the psalms and was celebrated as a secular poet.
