Kate Rusby was born on December 4, 1972, in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Her early interest in music was inspired by her parents.
Biography and Career:
During her childhood, Kate started learning music, playing the fiddle, the guitar, the piano and singing.
While growing up, she went to folk festivals. Eventually, her love for the folk music strengthened and she performed at a few folk festivals. She decided to pursue folk music as her career.
She joined The Poozies, already an established Celtic band of girls only, after their lead singer Sally Barker quit the band. Kate and her band released the EP called Come Raise Your Head (1995). In between her works with the Poozies, Kate produced an album with Kathryn Roberts in 1995. The Poozies released another album in
1998, named Infinite Blue.
After two years of work with Kathryn, Kate released Hourglass. Her next album was Sleepless. For this, Katie received two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Folk Singer of the Year and Best Album. She was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
She married John McCusker, a fiddler and her most trusted producer in 2001.
Since then, they worked together on five more albums. In 2004, her song "Wonderful Soul" was included in Biily Connolly's World Tour New Zealand. In 2006, she sung the duet "All Over Again" with Ronan Keating which went up to the top ten in the UK.
In 2007, her new album called Awkward Annie was released.
