John Philip Kemble (1757-1823) was an English actor and theatre manager.
Short Biography:
He excelled in tragic roles, especially Shakespearean, including Hamlet and Coriolanus. As manager of Drury Lane 1788-1803 and Covent Garden 1803-17 in London, he introduced many innovations in theatrical management, costume, and scenery.
He was the son of the strolling player Roger Kemble (1721-1802), whose children included the actors Charles Kemble and Mrs Siddons.
