Harrison Schmitt (Harrison Hagan "Jack" Schmitt) was born on July 3, 1935 in Santa Rita, New Mexico and he is a famous geologist, astronaut and a one-term U.S. Senator. He is famous as he was the twelfth person to walk on the Moon.
He spent his childhood near Silver City, graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 1957 and Ph.D. in geology from Harvard University in 1964. He joined NASA in 1965.
