Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian painter, influenced by Jugendstil ("Youth Style", a form of Art Nouveau); a founder member in 1897 of the Vienna Sezession group ("seceding" from art institutions to pursue a modern approach).
Short Biography:
His works include mosaics, and his paintings have a similar jewelled effect, for example The Kiss in 1909 (Musee des Beaux-Arts, Strasbourg). He painted many portraits.
