Fantasia Barrino was born on June 30, 1984 to Joseph and Diane Barrino. She born and raised in High Point, North Carolina. She is an African-American rhythm and blues singer, who came to fame as the winner of the third season of the television series American Idol in 2004.
In 2004, she released her debut single "I Believe", which debuted at the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100, making Barrino the first recording artist in history to debut at the number one spot with a debut single.
Then she released her debut album, "Free Yourself", which went on to be certified Platinum by the RIAA and garnered Barrino four Gr
ammy nominations in 2006. In 2006, she released her sophomore album, Fantasia, which featured the number-one R&B hit When I See U. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA and received three Grammy nominations in 2008.
She then played the part of Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple. Her third studio album is set to be released in early 2010.
In September 2005 Fantasia published a memoir, dictated to a freelance writer, titled "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale". The book became a New York Times Bestseller, reaching number seven on the list. In it she revealed that she is functionally illiterate and was unable to read the text of contracts she signed or to read to her then four-year-old daughter.

Fantasia Barrino does deserved too become famous. I'm proud of her because she show everybody you don't need a education too become famous and rich all you need is too discover your talent. That what Fantasia did too make a better life for her and her son. She played in her own movie. She has her own book out. And she has a bomb ass crib. Her baby father that left her as a single mother I know he wish he stay with her the whole way now. Much Love for her
