Cosmin Contra (full name Cosmin Marius Contra) was born on December 15, 1975 in Timisoara, Romania. He is a famous Romanian football player.

Biography and Career :

Cosmin Contra started his professional career at 18 years old in 1993 when he signed a contract with Politehnica Timisoara. For Timisoara he played at the beginning of his career for 3 seasons between 1993-1996 and in 51 games and scored one time.

Impressed by his skills, Dinamo Bucharest, the greatest rival of Timisoara near UTA Arad transferred him in 1996.

After an first season in which he stayed more on the substitute chair, in 1997 became titular on his position. He played for Dinamo Bucharest for 4 seasons in 101 games and scored 8 times. His great performance at Dinamo was the vice-champion title in 19 99.

After that season he was transferred to Deportivo Alaves for 800.000 $. He stayed in Spain at Alaves for 2 seasons and this period was very good for him. In 66 games Cosmin Contra scored 5 times and he succeeded to play the UEFA Cup Final against Liverpool but they lost it after a terrible game, probably one of the best ever.

In 2001 he was sold in Italy to the champion AC Milan and played 29 games but he had to leave after a conflict with Juventus player Edgar Davids.

Cosmin Contra was transferred to Atletico Madris for 12.000.000 $ and signed for a salary of 1.800.000 $ per year. He played only in the first season in Spain, after this became a substitute and played only in 3 games.

After a loan to West Bromwich Albion in England where he played only 5 games he came back in Romania at “his first love” Politehnica Timisoara. For this period he was the leader of the team in 14 games.

For Romanian national team he debuted on the 24th of April 1996 against Georgia when Romania got the victory with 5-0. He played in 55 games and scored 5 times.

In 2000 Cosmin Contra participated with Romania at the European Championship in Belgium & Holland and they succeeded to qualify from a group with Germany Portugal and England.

Trivia :

- In the European Cups he played in UEFA Cup in 23 games and scored 4 times.
- In 2005 he returned in Spain at Getafe.
- He was involved in a scandal together with Adrian Mutu, Miu and Alexandru Piturca, Victor Piturca's son with the erotic star Laura Andresan.
