Biography and Career :
She was part of the Jewell Gospel Trio when she was a teenager and that's how her career started. Her solo career started in 1968 and she won the title of First Lady of Southern Soul for her Grammy-nominated R&B renditions of the country tunes "Stand by Your Man" and "In the Ghetto."
The debut album was released in 1969 and it was called "I'm Just a Prisoner". After it she released another twenty-five albums. Her second husband's name is John Sussell. Together they founded the Beracah Ministries in Atlanta with help from Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye Bakker's PTL Ministries.
In 1992 her single "You Got the Love" sold tw
o million copies. Perhaps her most famous single and the one who made her a successful artist is the disco hit "Young Hearts Run Free".
