The Wu-Tang Clan are usually pronounced asˈwuːtæŋ. They are a majorly influential hip hop band from New York City. The band consists of RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard.
Career:
They are usually joined by fellow little time friend Cappadonna who was a quasi member of the group. They came together in the year 1997. They usually work with the New York City borough of Staten Island. They are referred to by members as "Shaolin". Some of their dudes are from the state of Brooklyn. One is from The Bronx.
The band have introduced and further launched the careers of many artists and groups who were affiliated with them. They are often known as the Wu-Tang Killa Bees collectively taken
together. In the year 2007, MTV placed the band Wu-Tang as the fifth greatest hip hop band of all time. In the year 2008, www.About.com gave them the rank and gave them a position of the number one greatest hip hop group of all time, and openly published a statement that "No weapon in hip-hop history can rival the chaotic cohesion of the Wu-Tang Clan. The Clan had so many characters, each with his own eccentricities. They were fearless in their approach. There's a good reason no group has been able to successfully recreate their sound. The crew spawned countless loosely associated acts. Their classic albums spawned classic albums."
The founders of the Wu-Tang Clan were brothers in arms i.e they were cousins Robert Diggs, Gary Grice, Russell Jones (RZA, GZA, and Ol' Dirty Bastard respectively). They had formed the band called Force of the Imperial Master (which was later known as All in Together Now after the release of a popular single by that name). The group always attracted the eyes of figures in the hip hop music industry, including the great Biz Markie. They did not manage to secure a record deal though through this.
