William Langland (c.1332-c.1400) was a English poet. Short Biography:
Born in the West Midlands, he took minor orders, and in later life settled in London. His alliterative Vision Concerning Piers Plowman appeared in three versions between about 1362 and 1398, but some critics believe he was only responsible for the first of these.
The poem forms a series of allegorical visions, in which Piers develops from the typical poor peasant to a symbol of Jesus, and condemns the social and moral evils of 14th-century England.
