Viorel Muresan Viorel Muresan - poet. Also essayist. Born on April 1st 1953 in Vicea (Maramures), he is the son of Victor and Viorica Muresan, peasants.

After graduating from the secondary school in Cehu-Silvaniei (Salaj) in 1972, he attended the Faculty of Letters (Romanian-Russian) of “Babes-Bolyai” University of Cluj Napoca where he graduated in 1979.

He was a member of the literary circle of “Echinox” literary review in Cluj Napoca. He made his debut in print with poetry in “Amfiteatru” literary review in 1972. His first book was the volume of poetry Letters from the Clock Museum / Scrisori din muzeul pendulelor (Albatros, 1982). He contributed poems to the following literary reviews: “Echinox”, “Amfiteatru”, “Tribuna”, “Vatra”, “Familia”, “Steaua”, “Trans ilvania”, “Luceafarul”, “Contrapunct”, “Apostrof, “Poesis”, “Calende”, “Euphorion”, “Discobolul”, “Excelsior”, “Cuvântul”, and “Unu”, as well as opinion articles to publications in Salaj county: “Silvana”, “Graiul Salajului”, and “Limes”.

After his first book, he published the following volumes of poetry: The Bone Library / Biblioteca de os (Dacia, 1991); The Stones of Nothingness / Pietrele nimicului (Dacia. 1995); The Frames of the North / Ramele nordului (Dacia, 1998). He was included in the Anthology of the Poetry of the ‘80s Generation / Antologia poeziei generatiei ‘80 edited by Alexandru Musina (Vlasie, 1993) and in Romanian Poets of the ‘80s and ‘90s edited by Andrei Bodiu, Romulus Bucur and Georgeta Moarcas (Paralela 45, 1999). He won the award for poetry of “Poesis” literary review (1995) and the “George Cosbuc” award of the Writers’ Union in Romania (Bistrita, 1998). In 1994 he obtained a Soros creation grant. At present, the author is a teacher of Romanian language and literature at School No. 2 in Jibou (Salaj). He is a member of the Writers’ Union in Romania and of the Association of Professional Writers in Romania - ASPRO.
