Viorel Moldovan (full name Viorel Dinu Moldovan) was born on August 8, 1972 in Bistrita Romania. He is a famous Romanian football player.
Biography and Career :
He started playing football at Viitorul Bistrita and he debuted in Liga 1 (first Romanian league) on the 21th of October 1990 for Gloria Bistrita in a match against Petrolul Ploiesti. He played 3 seasons for Gloria Bistrita and in 72 games he scored 12 times. After this he was transferred to Dinamo Bucharest where he played 2 seasons in 59 games and scored 19 times.
In 1995 Neuchatel Xamax transferred him for 1.500.000 $ and in 32 games scored 19 times and became the top scorer of the year in Switzerland’s football.
Grasshoppers Zurich obtained his signature in the next season and he succeeded again being the top
scorer with 27 goals in 32 games in the first season there. In the next season he played only 19 games but again scored 17 goals, almost one goal per game. In 1997 went in England to Coventry but had a bad season with 1 goal in 10 games.
He was transferred in Turkey to Fenerbahce Istanbul where he scored 33 times in 52 games.
In 2000 FC Nantes won the Champion Title in France with Viorel Moldovan after he scored 11 times in 23 games. They also won The French SuperCup in 2001. After another 5 seasons at FC Nantes with a borrow in UAE at Al- Wahda and one at Servette FC Geneve he came back in Romania and signed with FCU Politehnica Timisoara.
Viorel Moldovan left and signed with Rapid Bucharest in 2005. He had here one of his best results in UEFA Cup when he succeeded to play a quarter final with Steaua Bucharest but they were defeated.
In 2006 he won the Romanian Cup with Rapid and for the second year qualify in the groups of UEFA Cup.
For Romanian National Team debuted on the 23th of September 1992 in a game against Israel ended 1-0 for Romania.
He played in 70 games and scored 25 goals.
He participate with Romania at World Cup USA 1994 only as a substitute and at World Cup France 1998 where he scored the victory goal against England.
He also participated at European Championship in England 1996.
