Tiesto (full name Tijs Verwest) was born on January 17, 1969, in Breda, North Brabant, Netherlands. From his early childhood, he was given the nickname of Tiesto and later on he made himself known by this name as a DJ.
Before he even became a teenager, Tiesto had begun music creation. He gave copies of his song mixings to stores at the age of 15 hoping that his music will be played in the shops. He bought a mobile home when he was 16 and played at student parties.
Gradually, he became well-known in his country as a DJ and began receiving offers to play at clubs in the Netherlands. As his fame increased, he was soon spotted by Basic Beat Records of Rotterdam. He released 5 music discs with the Basic Beat Records label. Following the success, he and Amy
Bink formed their own record label under the name of Black Hole Recordings. The newly created record label was mainly aimed to release the works of Tiesto, but it also released the works of other upcoming DJs.
Tiesto began playing on solo programs. He played for 12 hours at Amsterdam in 1999. After that, he performed in a number of events worldwide including a major concert at Gelredome, Netherlands. In 2004, he became the first DJ to play in the Olympic Games when he performed at the opening ceremony of the Athens Olympics.
Following this, he set out on tour of Europe and North America. His base of followers kept on expanding and he appeared in video games like Wipeout Pure on PSP. He gave touches of his remixes to movies like Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean. Designer Giorgio Armani also released a line of Tiesto T-shirts. He plays for Privilege, a club in Ibiza. Tiesto has also composed music for the Olympics 2008 campaign of Coca Cola.
