Thornton Niven Wilder (1897-1975) won the Pulitzer Prize for the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey in 1927, and for the plays Our Town in 1938 and The Skin of Our Teeth in 1942.
His play The Matchmaker appeared at the Edinburgh Festival in 1954, and as the hit musical entitled Hello Dolly! in New York in 1964, and in London the following year.
