Thomas Johansson

Thomas JohanssonThomas Johansson was born on March 24, 1975 in Linkoping, Sweden. He is a tennis player who resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Biography and Career :

After starting his tennis career when he was very young he became a professional tennis player in 1994. Since then he has won one Grand Slam title, one Tennis Masters Series title and seven ATP titles as a single player and one ATP doubles title.

In 2002 he participated at the Australian Open and won the title after a final against Marat Safin. He became the next Swede to win this trophy after Mats Wilander in 1988. The first single title came in March 1997 at Copenhagen on carpet after a final against Martin Damm. The other ATP titles were conquered at St. Petersburg two times, Stockholm two times, Halle and Nottingham between 1 997 and 2005.

He won an ATP Masters Series final at Montreal on hard after beating Yevgeny Kafelnikov with the score 1-6 6-3 6-3. His only doubles title was won along Jonas Bjorkman in Bastad and the opponent team was formed of Christopher Kas and Oliver Marach.

In 1998 he played the finals of the tournaments in Rotterdam and Stockholm but unfortunately lost them both, the first one to Jan Siemerink and the other to Todd Martin. At the tournament in Nottingham in 2004 he managed to play the final, but lost it to Paradorn Srichaphan.

In 2006 Mario Ancic beat him in the final of the tournament in St. Petersburg. He was one of the quarter-finalists in 2007 at the tournament in Zagreb, but after this round he was eliminated.

At the French Open he reached the second round in 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2005. In 1998 and 2000 at the US open he reached the quarter-finals and in 2005 at Wimbledon the semi-finals.
