Theodor Stolojan Theodor Stolojan (full name Theodor Dumitru Stolojan) was born in October 24, 1943 in Targosviste, Romania. He is a famous Romanian politician and economist. He was temporary prime-minister of Romania from September 1991 till November 1992.

Biography and Career :

After being temporary prime-minister he worked for the World Bank and for a private Romanian company. In 1996 he sustained the presidency candidature of PDSR's member- Ion Iliescu.

In 2000 he stepped again in politics, running for the presidency of Romanaia as a representative of the National Liberal Party. He lost, Ion Iliescu being elected as president.

He was named in August 2002 president of P.N.L. (the National Liberal Party) at the PNL Extraordinary Congress.

In 2003 his party allied with the Democrat Party's leader- Tarian Basescu, the mayor of Bucharest. The alliance formed was named DA (Justice and Truth). In 2004 Stolojan made public his running for the presidency Romania.

But in October 2nd 2004 he announced his withdrawal caused by his major health problems. So Traian Basescu took his place in the race for presidency, winning the elections.

In October 2006 he was excluded from PNL. The motivation was that Theodor Stolojan didn't respect and sustain the decisions made by the PNL leadership. On the other hand, Stolojan affirmed that this was a maneuver of Calin Popescu Tariceanu (PNL's president) with which he wants to eliminate his political "enemies".
