The White Stripes is a kick as American rock duo i.e double. They came together in the year 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The band dudes are songwriter Jack White (vocals, guitar, and keyboards) and his ex-wife Meg White (drums and occasional vocals). After coming out with several singles and three albums within Detroit and various independent musicals underground, the White Stripes rose to fame in 2002.
Career:
They did so as a part of the garage rock revival scene. Two of their albums titled “White Blood Cells” and “Elephant” gave them large amounts of attention from a large number of outlets in the media in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The White Stripes have always employed a low-fidelity, do-it-yourself approach to writing and recording their music. Th
eir songs usually feature a mixture of punk and blues that influences a raw simplicity of composition and performance. They are known for their design and fashion aesthetic that always featured a simple color scheme of red, white, and black. As of middle of 2010, the band's discography consists of six studio albums, one live album, two extended plays , one concert film, one tour documentary, twenty-six singles, and fourteen music videos.
Their recent triad of albums have each won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
The White Stripes in essence began their career as part of the Michigan underground garage rock scene. They played with many local bands such as the Bantam Rooster, The Dirtbombs, The Paybacks, Rocket 455, and The Hentchmen.
The White Stripes were initially signed to Italy Record that was a small garage punk group. This happened in the year 1998 and was done by Dave Buick. He approached them at a bar and wondered if they would like to record a single for the label. Their first pressing was 1,000 copies on vinyl only. This was followed in October 1998 by the "Lafayette Blues" single. Again, 1,000 copies were released on vinyl only. Their third single, "The Big Three Killed My Baby" on Sympathy for the Record Industry followed in March 1999.
