Stanislao Cannizzaro (1826-1910) was an Italian chemist who revived interest in the work of Avogadro in 1811
Short Biography:
He revealed the difference between atoms and molecules, and so established atomic and molecular weights as the basis of chemical calculations.
Cannizzaro also worked in organic chemistry, and reactions of the type he discovered in 1853 for making benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid from benzaldehyde are named after him.
