Spiru Haret was born on February 15, 1851 in Hanul Conaci, Putna. He was a famous Romanian mathematician, academician, teacher and reformer of the Romanian teaching system.
Biography and Career :
In 1862 he joins the St. Sava High-School in Bucharest where he spent 5 years as an intern.
As a professor he teaches at the Faculty of Sciences (Mathematic-Physic and Rational Mechanic) at the University in Bucharest from 1878 till 1910. Spiru Haret also was a professor at the Bridges and Roads School teaching Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, Space and Plane Geometry till 1885.
From 1881 he teaches Rational Mechanic at the Artillery Officers School until 1890.
He retires in 1910, but he keeps lecturing until he dies . In 1910 he also publishes "Social Mechanics" in Paris and B
ucharest, using for the first time Mathematics to explain and to understand the social phenomenon and the social relations.
His greatest achievements were not in science, but in "the school life" as an inspector and politician, being the greatest reformer of Romanian XIX century Scholl Sistem.
Spiru Haret was the Minister of Public Education in three liberal governments, between 1897 - 1899, 1901 - 1904 and 1907 - 1910. As the Minister of Education he ran a complete reform, basically building the modern Romanian education system.
He passed away in December 1912.
