Slobodan Milosevic (1941-2006) was a Serbian communist politician, party chief and president of Serbia from 1986; re-elected in December 1990 in multiparty elections and again in December 1992.
Short Biography:
Milosevic wielded considerable influence over the Serb-dominated Yugoslav federal army during the 1991-1992 civil war and continued to back Serbian militia in Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1992, although publicly disclaiming any intention to "carve up" the republic.
Widely believed to be the instigator of the conflict, Milosevic changed tactics during 1993, adopting the pubhc persona of peacemaker and putting pressure on his allies, the Bosnian Serbs, to accept UN-EC negotiated peace terms.
