Septimius Severus (AD 146-211) was born in North Africa, he held a command on the Danube when in AD 193 the emperor Pertinax was murdered.
Short Biography:
Proclaimed emperor by his troops, Severus proved an able administrator; he was the only African to become emperor. He died at York while campaigning in Britain against the Caledonians.
