
Sela Ward was born on 11th July in 1956 in Meridian, Mississipi, United States. She is an American actress born in television and film.
Biography and Career
Sela is the eldest daughter of Granberry Holland Jr. and Annie Kate. She is an orphaned, her mother died due to breast cancer in February 12, 2002 while her father was an electrical engineer passed away on January 13, 2009.
She studied at the University of Alabama with the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts major in arts and advertising. During college, she used to be a cheer leader for the Crimson Tide Football Team, member of the Chi Omega sorority and was a Homecoming Queen.
After graduation, Sela moved to New York and worked as a storyboard artist for multimedia presentations. She felt that her income wa
s not enough to supplement needs. She then decided to enter the world of modeling. She was hired by Wilhelmina agency and endorsed Maybelline cosmetics.
In addition, she appeared in 20 national television commercials. To pursue her acting career, she moved to California and was landed on her first film 'The Man Who Loved Women' which was released in 1980s. While in television, she had her first regular role as a beautiful socialite in ‘Emerald Point, NAS'. In 1986 she co-starred Tom Hanks in 'Nothing in Common'.
Her remarkable role was when she portrayed the role of Teddy Reed, the bohemian alcoholic in the series 'Sisters' in 1994. Her magnificent acting made her won her first Emmy as the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series; the Screen Actors Guild Award in 1996 and nomination Golden Globe nomination. In addition, she also won a CableACE Award in the movie 'Almost Golden:The Jessica Savitch Story ' in 1995.
Sela did not pass to play the role of Bond Girl due to her age (39). Instead, she made and produced the documentary 'The Changing face of Beauty' which contains American obsession with youth and its effect to women. From 1999 to 2002, she was chosen over Candice Bergen, as the Spokesperson of Sprint for their long distance telephone service. She made an appearance on 'Frasier' as Kelly Easterbrook, the supermodel/zoologist on its fifth season opener.
In 1999, she did the series 'Once and Again' and received her second Emmy Award and also got Golden Globe Award with her excellent performance. Her other appearance are in 'Suburban Madness' as Bobbi Bacha in 2004; 'The Day After Tomorrow' also in 2004 and 'House' as Stacy Warner. Sela turned down doing long series like 'Desperate Housewife' and CSI:Miami in order to spend more quality time with her family.

Sela married Howard Sherman in May 23, 1992 whom she had tow children named Austin Ward Sherman and Anabella Raye Sherman. She met tow poster children on her way back home to Mississippi and this gave her an idea to help the abuse and neglected children by providing funds while they are waiting foster homes.
