not only did we lose a gem when he died, we lost music. smooth, soothing therapeutic music. I am only 24 years old from Ghana, west Africa. My dad had an old collection of his audio cassettes so i grew up listening to him. i probably had been listening to him whiles i was being formed in my mother's womb. I get so emotional when listening to sam cooke and i have come close to tears on a number of occasions. songs like "that's where it's at" get so deep into me. I have been listening to the cd "sam cooke at the copa" for some days now and i just cannot stop. you know what he said after the song "blowing in the wind"? He said "I gotta go. I don't wanna leave but I gotta go". And he left us for eternity. I have no one here in Ghana to share my passion for sam cooke's songs because most of those who know sam cooke just like my father are advanced in years. most people my age listen to stuffs of this era. that is why i am so excited to find out that i can use this medium to reach out to people who understand and love sam cooke. lets try to forget about the circumstances surrounding his death and just continue to keep his name and music alive.
