Russell Brand was born on June 4, 1975, in Grays, Essex. Though his parents divorced when he was young, he played the role of Fat Sam in his school play, Bugsy Malone, when he was 15 years old. His education was funded by the council and he studied at the Italia Conti Academy and then at the Drama Centre, Camden with a scholarship of 3 years.
He reached the finals of the famous Hackney Empire New Act of the Year Competition. After that, he did a number of shows hosting for MTV in shows like Dance Floor Chart and MTV Select. However, his humour took the price of his job as he had dressed as Osama Bin Laden on the eve of the 9/11 attacks and got fired from MTV.
In 2007, Russell Brand’s book, My Book Wook, was released and it received good responses from
the public. In 2008, published HarperCollins signed him for a 2-book contract which included the publishing of My Booky Wook in the USA.
He entered Hollywood with the movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” (2008) as Aldous Snow. Brand received positive reviews for his performance and got him a number of movie deals including “Get Him To The Greek”.
He appeared with David Letterman on his show and then drew huge public attention at the MTV Video Music Awards of 2008.
In 2008, Russell Brand raised controversies when he and Jonathan Ross made a prank call to Andrew Sachs. Ross said about an affair between Russell Brand and Sachs’ granddaughter. As a result of this controversy, Brand resigned from BBC .
