He has also acted in a few B movies musicals. In 1953 he became successful after he became a producer by getting a producers post at Universal International. He was popular for producing movies that where known as light films. Actresses like Doris Day, Debbie Reynolds and Julie Andrews have starred in his movies. He has even produced melodramas like Imitation of life and Lana Turner and many with Rock Hudson. The movie Airport was a box office hit in 1970 and the
movie Lost Horizon was a failure in 1973. After producing a few Television movies he starting working with Paramount Pictures.
