Roma Downey was born on 6th May 1960 in Derry, Northern Ireland. She is a well known actor, singer and a producer.
Biography and career:
Roma Downey was born and brought up in a Catholic family. She attended grammar school at Thornhill College.
Downey wanted to be a painter and thus did her BA in Brighton College of Arts, England. Later on, she turned to acting and had a classical training in Dram school London. She performed in plays of Shakespeare, Chekhov and Shaw.
She started her acting career at Abbey Players in Dublin. She toured USA in the production of The Playboy of the western world. With her growing popularity, Downey gained a role as Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis in US TV 6-hour miniseries called 'A woman named Jackie'.
This led her to
win Emmy awards for the year 1991. Her most famous role came as 'Monica' in 'Touched by an Angel', which ran from 1994 to 2003. She was awarded the TV guide award for favorite actress.
She has produced and starred in many TV movies. A few of her well known TV movies are 'Borrowed Hearts" and "Second Honeymoon". She also wrote a children's book 'Love is A Family'. In 1999 she released her record Healing Angels. Healing Angels is a spoken word album by Roma.
Downey married thrice. Her first marriage was to fellow actor 'Leland Orser' in 1987. They separated in 1989. In 1996, she married American Director David Anspaugh.
The couple has a daughter by name Reilly Marie Anspaugh (born in 1966). Roma and David ended their three years of marriage in 1998. Roma is currently married to television producer and entrepreneur Mark Brunett.
