Biography and Career:
Roger Moore (full name Roger George Moore) was born on October 14, 1927, in Stockwell, London, England. At the age of 15, Moore dropped from school and took up jobs in cartoon studios in London. He was spotted by director Brian Desmond and he helped him enter the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. But, soon, he was sent to Germany in the World War II.
After the end of the War, he suffered from a car crash and, while recovering, married Doorn var Steyn. After divorcing her in 1953, he tied knots with singer Dorothy Squires.
He got his first movie role in 1954 in the MGM film “The Last Time I Saw Paris”. After that, in 1956, he got a lead role in the movie “Diane”. After that he acted for a number of Warner Bros productions including the TV show “Maverick”.
In the meantime, his marriage broke with Dorothy Squires and he started a relation with Luisa Mattioli.
Roger Moore got more widely known with his performance in the TV show The Saint as Simon Templar. After marrying Luisa Mattioli in 1969, the couple had their third child in 1973. That same year, he got the chance to act in the role of James Bond.
His first James Bond movie was “Live and Let Die” (1973) and after that he acted in 7 James Bond movies with the last in “A View to a Kill” (1985). In 1981, he acted in the movie “Cannonball Run” and is said to be most noted in USA for his role in this movie.
After leaving the role of James Bond, Roger Moore concentrated on charitable works. He was made the Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF in 1991.
He also survived from prostate cancer during the middle of the 1990s and got a pacemaker implanted. In 1996, he divorced Luisa Mattioli and married Christina Tholstrup.
He received knighthood in 2003 and also received the German Federal Service Cross for his service to the UNICEF. His autobiography, My Word is My Bond, was published in 2008.
