Robert Maxwell Ian Robert Maxwell (1923-1991) was a Czech-born British publishing and newspaper proprietor who owned several UK national newspapers, including the Daily Mirror, the Macmillan Publishing Company, and the New York Daily News. At the time of his death the Maxwell domain carried debts of some $3.9 billion.
