Biography and Career:
Robert Evan's birth name was Robert J. Shapera. He is the son of Florence, a homemaker who comes from a wealthy family and Archie Shapera, a dentist in Harlem. He worked for his brothers fashion company Evan Picone and he also did a few radio shows.
In 1956 Norma Shearer saw him at The Beverly Hills Hotel and she told him to do the role of her late husband Irving Thalberg for the movie "Man of a thousand Faces". Late in the same he met Darryl F. Zanuck who gave him a chance to do the role of Pedro Rome
o for the film "The Sun Also Rises". In 1959 he worked in 20th Century Fox production "The Best of Everything" along with Hope Lange, Diane Baker and Joan Crawford.
He was not very happy with his acting performance so he decided to start producing films. In 1966 he got the rights from the writer of the novel "The Detective" to make his novel a film. So Evan made the novel a movie starring Frank Sinatra in 1968. There was an article about Robert Evans aggressive producing style written by Peter Bart, which was noticed by Charles Bluhdorn, the chief of Gulf + Western Company and he hired Evans to be a part of Paramount Pictures.
He was the production head of Paramount Pictures. Though Evans was not experienced when he joined Paramount Picture he was able to make it successful studio in Hollywood. A few films that he made during his tenure in Paramount Pictures are Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple, The Italian Job, True Grit, Love Story, Harold and Maude, Serpico, The Conversation, Save the Tiger, The Great Gatsby, Rosemary's Baby, The Godfather, and many others.
Later Robert Evan stepped down from Paramount Pictures and started producing his own movies. The movies that he produced are Chinatown, Marathon Man, Black Sunday, Popeye, Urban Cowboy, The Cotton Club, The Two Jakes, Sliver, Jade, The Phantom, The Saint, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
