Robby Robinson, known as “The Black Prince”, was an American top bodybuilder of the sixties. Born in Damascus, Georgia (on the 24th of May, 1946) and raised in Tallahasse, Florida, Robby Robinson began his competitive career during his college. Surprisingly, he started as a football player – as a quarterback.

Career:

Though, he was pushed by his coaches to start practicing bodybuilding, as his muscle development was extremely high even though, he wasn’t doing something especially for that.

Robinson used to train in the famous Gold’s Gym, among the top bodybuilders of that time: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sergio Oliva, Frank Zane. Therefore, when “Pumping Iron” was shot in 1974, the Black Prince was one of the main characters.

As concerning his bodybuilding car eer, this is what brought him the name of “The Black Prince”. Known to be one of the bodybuilders always in shape (shredded, with big and hard muscles), Robby Robinson won in 1976 the title of Mr. Universe and in 1978 the Night Of Champions contest.

There is one thing, though, that Robinson has failed to achieve: a Sandow trophy. In 1978, as Mr. Olympia, he was in his best shape ever. Though, due to the fact that he has never been a favorite of the Weider brothers – the ones that were the among the organizers -, even though he was more ripped than its main competitor, Frank Zane, and also, he was much bigger, Robby Robinson was only given the second position.

Though, this wasn’t the end of Robinson’s career. In 1979, he won the Pro Invitational, and 15 years later, in 1994, he won the Master’s Olympia title.

Nowadays, when he is 65 years old, Roby Robinson, even though he is not competing anymore, is still pumping: he has recently posted pictures with him, pictures everybody could see his phenomenal shape: ripped abs, and big arms (20 inches).

Why is Robby Robinson Famous?

Robby Robinson was one of the top American bodybuilders from the Golden Age (1960-1980). Because he won multiple pro bodybuilding shows, but also for his appearance in the “Pumping Iron Movie”, Robby Robinson is definitely one of the famous bodybuilders that we have ever seen.
