Richard Hammond was born on December 19, 1969, in Solihull, West Midlands, England. He was attracted to automobiles from an early age and it was no surprise that it eventually became the course of his career. After passing from Harrogate College of Art and Technology, Richard Hammond took up the career of an automobile journalist.
In the early days of his career, Hammond worked for a number of radio stations in UK like Radio Lancashire, Radio York, Radio Leeds etc. Soon after, he started hosting the show "Men & Motors" and that was his first step towards automobile journalism.
In 2002, when the show Top Gear was repacked, Richard Hammond was selected as a co-host. Soon his popularity spread far and wide and his comments were thoroughly appreciated. He performed several stunts for the
show including getting himself in a sinking car.
During one such stunt, Richard Hammond suffered a severe accident which resulted in a brain injury. Luckily, he was able to cope with it and returned to the show within mere four months. Though the news of brain injury was hidden from public, a full account of the incident was given in his autobiography, On the Edge. The book was pretty successful in the UK and inspired Richard Hammond to write his next book.
In September 18, 2008, Richard's second book, As You Do, was published. The book was about the life behind the scenes of Top Gear. Alike its predecessor, the book did a good number of sale in the UK.
Presently, Richard Hammond is determined to continue his career further ahead on the fast lane.
