Real name Charles Hastings (born in 1943) is an English stage and film director.
Short Biography:
He succeeded Peter Hall as artistic director of the National Theatre, London in 1988.
His stage productions include Guys and Dolls in 1982, Bartholomew Fair in 1988, Richard III in 1990, which he set in 1930s Britain; and Night of the Iguana in 1992.
His films include The Ploughman's Lunch in 1983, Laughterhouse (US Singleton's Pluck) in 1984, and Tumbledown in 1988 for television.
