I followed Rich Little's career since the 70's from the Canadian radio shows of his Comedy albums based on popular voices from back then. I even saw him live in Hamilton with Mel Torme and I actually Bumped into Rich when he snuck off stage to get to his Change room. Rich opened up with a intro to his show and a bit of a Biography , then Mel joined him and 5 minutes later Rich left Mel in charge . I had already left for the washroom when Mel appeared and it was on my way back that Rich and I both tried to open the same Enterance door to the Auditorium ,he won but the door opened towards me and we collided . He mumbled Sorry, and scooted by me with a black pull over top to match his pants and not be seen in the dark as he crossed through the Auditorium near the last aisle.
It hit me moments later and I wondered what the odds would be since I also bought a Aisle seat near the back for a quick exit at break time, I was the only one in the Lobby area and actually collided with Mr.Little and didn't know it right away because he also came out of the unlit area wearing black and I didn't see his eyes right away. As I entered I heard a side door click shut just to my left, eureka....Rich came down a side-tunnel and had to cut through the back area, he took off his Tux jacket to don a Sweater and sneak by the Patrons via a Stage enterance tunnel.
Today , I'm looking at going back to Stage work as a Impression singer only because most famous ones have passed and I see Vegas with Tribute shows for only a few stars while some aren't Musicians or full time singers. I do Opera and can sing Bass/Baritone/Tenor and falsetto for the Bee Gees or very high voices.
My Robert Goulet is better than Mr.Littles and I can do a whole song while adding Placido Domigo and Al Jolson to share the song, I used to do Public speaking with a 2 hour stint and a 1 Hour Vegas act is nothing when I'm on a energy high and having fun.
I don't want Rich's job, I want my job on a old stage because I also can sing out if the power goes since Goulet and Jolson started as stage singers playing to the crowds.
