The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American band with a genre in alternative rock.
Career:
They started their stint in the music industry in Los Angeles in 1983. The band's current members are Anthony Kiedis (doing vocals), Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass), Chad Smith (drums), and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar). Their musical style has combined the usual funk with elements of other genres including jazz fusion, punk rock, and psychedelic rock to say the least. They initially featured guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons.
Slovak, however, passed away of a heroin overdose in the year 1988, that caused Irons to leave. Irons was replaced for a short while by former Dead Kennedys drummer D.H. Peligro before the band found a full time replacement in Smith, while Slovak was repl
aced by guitarist John Frusciante. This troupe recorded the band's fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth albums, Mother's Milk (1989), Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), Californication (1999), By the Way (2002), and Stadium Arcadium (2006), their five biggest hits.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a major record for the band. It generated sales of over fifteen million records and accounted for the group's initial mainstream commercial success. Frusciante grew uncomfortable with this new found success and left inbetween the tour for the album in 1992, giving into heroin problems. After getting in guitarist Arik Marshall to finish the tour, Kiedis, Flea, and Smith employed Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction for their next album that was called One Hot Minute in the year 1995.
Although it was quite successful, it did not surpass the critical acclaim of Blood Sugar Sex Magik and sold only around half the copies of the previous one. Shortly then, Navarro left the band due to creative differences with the rest. Frusciante, when out of drug rehabilitation, joined them again in 1998 when Flea requested him to. The group of 4 then returned to the studio and came up with the song Californication that went ahead to sell over 14 million units all over the globe. It became their most commercially successful album till date.
