Randy Couture (full name Randy Duane Couture) was born on June 22, 1963, in Everett, Washington. He was already state champion in wrestling while he was in high school. After that he served the army for 6 years. Back from the army, he joined the Oklahoma State University. During this time, he won the All-American championship thrice. Randy was made a substitute for the country's Olympic team of 1988, 1992 and 1996.
In 1997, Randy Couture joined the UFC. On May 30, he won against Vitor Belfort in a UFC13 match, though Belfort was highly supported for winning the match. This victory paved the way for Randy Couture's career. After that, he defeated Maurice Smith to win his debut heavyweight belt. But a conflict with UFC forced him to leave the circuit and he began wrestling in the RINGS ci
rcuit of Japan.
In 2000, Randy came back to UFC and won the heavyweight title again by defeating Kevin Randleman on November 17. He retained his title for two years until 2002 when he lost to Josh Barnett at the UFC 36. This forced Randy Couture to demote to the light-heavyweight section where he found success again. He defeated Chuck Liddell soon enough to mark his first victory in this segment. Randy Couture grabbed the light-heavyweight title of 2002 by defeating Tito Ortiz.
In 2005, Randy Couture lost to Chuck Liddell in a knockout in April. He was defeated again in February 2005 when fought again with Chuck. After the second match, Randy Couture announced his retirement. During his retirement, Randy acted in a number of movies including Invincible (2006), The Unit (2007) and Big Stan (2007). Randy Couture was introduced into the Hall of Fame of UFC in June 2006.
Randy Couture broke his retirement by appearing again in UFC to fight Tim Sylvia in March 2007. He also became the first UFC wrestler to become champion thrice. He retained his title till August 2007. In October 2007, Randy announced resigned from the UFC saying that he didn't need the problems he faced at UFC. However, he returned to UFC in 2008 for a three match contract. The first of those three matches saw Randy Couture taking on Brock Lesnar in November 2008.
In 2008, he has also starred in the movies The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior and in Redbelt. He next movie is Mandrake in 2009.
