Philip Duke of Edinburgh (born in 1921) Prince of the UK, husband of Elizabeth II, and a grandson of George I of Greece and a great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria.
Short Biography:
He was born in Corfu, raised in England, and educated at Gordonstoun and Dartmouth Naval College. During World War II he served in the Mediterranean, taking part in the batde of Matapan, and in the Pacific.
A naturalized British subject, taking the surname Mountbatten in March 1947, he married Princess Elizabeth in Westminster Abbey 20 November 1947, having the previous day received the title Duke of Edinburgh.
In 1956 he founded the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to encourage creative achievement among young people.
