Pope Innocent III
Innocent III (1161-1216) was Pope from 1198 who asserted papal power over secular princes, especially over the succession of Holy Roman Emperors.
Short Biography:
He also made King John of England his vassal, compelling him to accept Langton as archhishop of Canterbury.
He promoted the fourth Crusade and crusades against the non-Christian Livonians and Letts, and Albigensian heretics of South France.
