Pieter Willem Botha
Pieter Willem Botha (1916-2006) was a South African politician.
Short Biography:
Prime minister from 1978, he initiated a modification of apartheid, which later slowed in the face of Afrikaner (Boer) opposition.
In 1984 he became the first executive state president.
In 1989 he unwillingly resigned both party leadership and presidency after suffering a stroke, and was succeeded by F.W. de Klerk.
