Philip Wilson Steer Philip Wilson Steer (1860-1942) was a British painter, influenced by the French Impressionists, known for seaside scenes such as The Beach at Walberswick in 1890 (Tate Gallery, London).

Short Biography:

Steer, born in Birkenhead on Merseyside, studied in Paris. He became a leader (with Sickert) of the English movement, and founder member of the New English Art Gub to give younger artists an alternative to the Royal Academy.
