Philip Knight did his graduation at University of Oregon and Stanford Graduate School of Business. He has contributed millions of dollars to schools. He is the son of a lawyer and future newspaper publisher. He did his schooling at Cleveland high school in Portland and then at the University of Oregon, Eugene. He was also the member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and got his degree in journalism I n1959.
After getting his journalism degree from the University of Oregon he joined th
e army where he served one year on active duty and 7 years in the army reserve. After his service in the army he registered at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He completed his Masters of Business Administration in 1962. In 1964 Philp Knight joined hands with Bill Bowerman and started Blue Ribbon Sports, forerunner to Nike.
In 2004 Philip Knight resigned from the company's CEO post, but he still retained the position of chairman of the board. William Perez the former CEO of S.C. Johnson & Son became the CEO of Nike Inc. who was later replaced by Mark Parker in 2006.
In 2002 Philip Knight procured Will Vinton studios, where his son Travis worked as an animator. Will Vinton after it was bought by Knight was named LAIKA. His son Travis was named to the LAIKA board of directors in the same year and he became the CEO of the company in 2009. The first feature film by LAIKA was Coraline in 2009.
