Petre Ispirescu

Petre IspirescuPetre Ispirescu was born in January, 1830 in Bucharest, Romania. He was an editor, writer, printer and publicist.

Biography and Career :

His parents were Elena and Gheorghe Ispirescu. He wanted to be a monk and did his studies in the Metropolitan Church and Doamna Balasa Church.

Because he had to earn for living he couldn't continue studying and hired at the Carcalchi printing house and then at the Capainig printing house.

In 1849 he learned playing the guitar to entertain his widow mother. Four years later a friend of his, who was a doctor and a merchant, taught him French. In 1858 he accepted to publish the correspondence of Nicolae Vogoride and he was sentenced to one month in jail.

Alexandru Ioan Cuza unified Moldavia and Walachia in 1859 and Ispirescu was very in terested by the event.

He worked and was a partner at the "Nationalul" magazine.

In 1861 he decided to get married. Because his work as a printer he has contact with many writers. Soon his talent is developed in fairy tales. He published the first six tales in "Taranul Roman".

His partner sold the printing house in 1863 and he lost his job. C. A. Rosetti offered him the chance to work at "Romanul", but soon it was abolished.

In 1872 the new series of fairy tales was published and in 1881 he went to Rosiorii-de Verde where his daughter would be named schoolmaster.

Two years later, on June 21, 1883, he had his first stroke.

In 1885 he used children's customs in the volume "Jocuri si Jucarii de Copii".

He passed away on November 27, 1887 in Bucharest because of another cerebral congestion.
