Paulina Rubio (full name Paulina Susana Rubio) was born on June 17, 1971 in Mexico City, Mexico. She is a Mexican singer and actress.
Biography and Career :
Paulina Rubio is the daughter of Susana Dosamantes, a Mexican actress of telenovelas. Rubio's music is popular in Latin America, Spain and in the United States.
Paulina Rubio began her career when she was nine years old in 1980, debuting with a music group called Timbiriche, recording ten albums with them, with Benny Ibarra, Sasha Sokol, Mariana Garza, Erick Rubín, Diego Schoening, Alix Bauer, Eduardo Capetillo, Thalia, Edith Marquez, Bibi Gaytan, Patty Tanuz, Claudio Bermudez and Silvia Campos. Rubio turned to acting in telenovelas on Televisa. Sh
e landed her first role in 1988, as a villain in Pasion y poder ("Passion and power"). In 1990 she starred in Baila conmigo and in 1994 she made her film debut in the low-budget Mexican film called Bésame en la Boca and in 1995 she starred in the telenovela Pobre Nina Rica.
Paulina Rubio studied dancing/singing at El Centro de Capacitacion de Televisa. Later she was a member of teen pop sensation Timbiriche. along with Thalia. Timbiriche made them both famous. Paulina left Timbiriche in 1991, after being a part of it for 10 years.
Paulina Rubio wanted to make her own music. Paulina's first album "La Chica Dorada" was very successful. It included no. 1 singles "Mio" and "Amor De Mujer". He second album "24 Kilates" was certified gold and it had hits like "Nieva, Nieva" and "Asunto De Doas". Other albums included, "El Tiempo Es Oro" (1995) and "Planeta Paulina" (1996). She also had little parts in telenovelas.
In 1992, having left Timbiriche behind, Paulina is ready to become Mexico’s Golden Girl. She had travelled to Spain earlier to record her first solo album, La Chica Dorada (which translates to The Golden Girl in English), with the record label EMI. After being a great accomplishment, Paulina recorded three more albums with EMI: 24 Kilates in 1993, El Tiempo Es Oro in 1995, and Planeta Paulina in 1996.
In 1996, Paulina decided to take a four-year break. In the end it really wasn't a true break, since Rubio was living in Spain and doing a little bit of everything. One of the most important things she did while in Spain was hosting the TV show "Vive el Verano". This show gave her a lot of exposure and terrain in fame - especially when she interpreted the program's theme song which was also titled "Vive el Verano".
In 2000, now under the record label Universal, Paulina releases her self-titled album Paulina. Mexico’s Golden Girl aroused and took pleasure in shaking things up with singles like “Lo Hare Por Ti”, “El Ultimo Adios”, “Tal Vez, Quiza”, “Y Yo Sigo Aqui”, “Sexi Dance”, and “Yo No Soy Mujer.” Paulina soon found herself becoming the winner of multiple awards, gaining 3 Grammy nominees, selling over 2.5 million copies of Paulina, and going - not only Platinum - but Double Diamond with the album.
