Paula Radcliffe was born on December 17, 1973, in Davenham, England. After her birth, Paula's family moved to Barnton. Her father was a marathon runner. Paula wanted to follow the footsteps of her father even though she had asthma. She began to run when she was 7 years old.
Her family relocated to Oakley and young Paula Radcliffe entered the Bedford Athletic Club in 1985. She is an economics student from Loughborough University.
During this time, Paula started taking part in competitions. In the beginning, she ran in cross-country running competitions. In 1992, she won the World Junior title. She suffered an injury and had to wait for a year to compete in the next event.
In 1995, she participated in the World Championships and finished in 5th spot. Following her success, Paula got
a chance to take part in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. She achieved the 5th rank even in the Olympics. Next, Paula won silver in Athletics at World Championships in 1999.
She participated in 2000 Summer Olympics as well, but didn't achieve any major success. She won gold at World Half Marathon Championships in 2000.
In 2001, she won gold at the World Cross Country Championships. Paula married Gary Lough, her coach and former runner.
Paula Radcliffe started running marathons from 2002. She broke the record for best time at London Marathon for a women's race. She also finished the Chicago Marathon at a record time. In April 2003, Paula overtook her own record of the London Marathon. Apart from this, she also finished the New York Marathon in first place.
2004 Summer Olympics was a disaster for Paula as she suffered heavy injuries and had to withdraw from the competition. But she made for it by winning the New York Marathon that year.
She participated in London Marathon n 2005. That year she snatched gold and broke record at the World Championships held in Finland.
In January 2007, she gave birth to her first child, Isla. But Paula suffered from stress fracture during the labour. This let to finish in 23rd spot at the 2008's Summer Olympics.
