Patty Schnyder was born on December 14, 1978 in Basel, Switzerland. She is a professional tennis player who won 13 single titles until now(2007).
Biography and Career :
She started the professional career in 1994 and after two years she made her debut at one of the Grand Slams, the French Open. In 1998 she was already present in the Top 10, but after one year left it. In 2005 she was present again in the Top 10, this time on the highest position until then, on the 7th place. Regarding the Grand Slams she was present in the third round at Wimbledon in 2001 and at the French Open and US Open in the quarter-finals in 1998. In 2004 she managed to play in the semi-finals at the Australian Open, but unfortunately stopped there.
The WTA tournaments won by her until now (2007) are
at Hobart, Hannover, Madrid, Maria Lankowitz, Palermo, Gold Coast, Pattaya City, Zurich, Gold Coast again and Cincinnati, between 1998 and 2005. In 2005 she played three finals, at Rome, Zurich and Linz, but lost to Amelie Mauresmo, Lindsay Davenport and Nadia Petrova. Next year she played another two finals at Charleston and Stanford. They were lost to Nadia Petrova and Kim Clijsters.
She won four doubles tournaments, two of them at Paris. Until now, 2005 was her best season, but she hopes she will have successes as great as that again. She got married to Rainer Hofmann, who is a German private investigator and information technology specialist.
